Dash Cams - Pros & Cons

Never really considered one to date, but my wife travels a lot with work now and comes back with some real horror stories. So I'm seriously considering a dash cam now. As the title suggests what are the pros and cons ?

    Thanks

Only cons are if Mrs Peajay commits any offences it'll be recorded, but I think it only retains footage you request it to.

Con:---- It might be her driving, as in "I've never had an accident, but I've caused hundreds"

Pro - you might get something you can send in to Crash, Bang, Wallop What a Video.

Cons - You look like a nosey, interfering, meddlesome git.

My colleague has one and he’s one of the biggest arseholes I’ve ever seen behind the wheel. But it’s always everyone else’s fault.

I’ve been thinking of getting one. However they all seem quite large and involve a lead dealing over the dashboard to the cigarette lighter.

Garmin do a nice small one, about 2" square for about £120. Run the lead around the window edge.

get a £30 quid one from Amazon, no great loss if you don't like it then and quality is ok,

As mentioned above run the cable around the windscreen, easy job to push the cable under the headlining and you wont even see it, can get a kit (£10) to plug direct into fuse box if you want to hide cable completely.

I cant see any cons, invaluable if someone hits you and if its your fault then pull the sd card out.

I've got one, but I only turn it on when I go dogging. I laughed when I saw a Sludge lookalike in one of the videos

Make sure you get a dual one, camera in the rear above number plate. Record those dozy tailgaters, especially those truckers.

I was in china last week and every car I was in had one over there, and they were mostly built into the rear view mirror, and/or also doubled as a bigger screen for satnav which is kinda cool

Very common in Asia as is helmet cams for motorcyclists. We have one and it was useful when a motorcyclist broke the rear light by not paying attention. Can't see any reason not to have one.

We’re behind the major countries in virtually everything, lagging behind in broadband speeds to infotainment in cars to the road infrastructure, railways, public service transport (buses) to name but a few.
