Thread: Who replaces NML?

  1. #1

    Who replaces NML?

Junior unlikely to be fit so does Kadeem play or do we alter our shape and bring Reed in?
Surely Paterson won't start after his mediocre showing yesterday?

    Re: Who replaces NML?

    Got to be Kadeem.
Warnock has shown faith in him enough to warrant a place in the squad so why not.

Claudio Marchisio is a free agent. Not a winger. But still.

Unfortunately I don’t think Kadeem is the answer but would be liked to be proved wrong. Personally I wouldn’t have had in in our Championship team last season and this is a step up again. Seems one dimensional, try’s to go around a defender & he hasn’t got a decent shot on him.

Would much rather seem a slight change in formation with Reid sitting just behind Zohore but NW seems to like two wide men.

Put Murphy on the right and Ralls on the left and go with Victor Arter and Reid in the middle

I'd leave Murphy on the left, as he is capable of taking on and beating multiple defensive players. The problem is what happens in and around the box, so I would give Reid a go in an advanced role behind the striker. I don't think we need two specialist wingers if we have the option of playing through Reid. The right midfielder could make the occasional foray down the wing, but he also has the option to pass directly to Reid from a deeper position. Camarasa has been billed as a box-to-box player, so maybe he could have a go? How are we doing for fullbacks who like to get forward? Is Jazz any good?

Play a front three of Murphy Zohore Reid

Zohore needs somebody closer to him, otherwise I wouldn't play him if he is going to up front on his own again. I don't think Zohore and two wide players works. Also Murphy may spend most of the next 3 games tracking back!

I would have had Reid more as an inside forward rather than winger, but Der Kaiser made a nice suggestion of playing with a 5 at the back with wing backs instead

    Re: Who replaces NML?

Reid in for Mendez-Laing to support the striker with Murphy given the freedom to switch wings - that allows us to keep three central midfielders which I reckon we need at this level, but it won't happen because Neil Warnock likes his wingers, so I reckon it's more likely we'll see Murphy on one flank and Paterson on the other.

Personally it appears that Pilkington would have been a decent fit however that option isnt available. Id probably stick with Patterson.

Unless we go to a 5 at the back and play Jazz at wing back. Means losing Murphy then

He could play more centrally as a support for the striker.

What about bringing Cunningham in at LB and pushing Bennett further foward?

Yes, that might be worth looking at - it would mean Murphy playing on the right, but he'd probably cope with that and if we used that selection for the Arsenal match it would mean that we'd have another player who would be disciplined defensively during the time they had the ball.

    Yeah id bring in Cunningham.

Doesn't matter who plays in midfield, they're not going to support the striker. Our midfield plays deep, it's one of the reasons why we're so good defensively and Zohore is all on his own. There's no problem with Zohore playing as a lone striker, the problem is that Warnock doesn't allow anyone in midfield a bit of creative license. By playing that way we have to have wingers as they become our attackers when we have the ball and defenders when we don't. Warnock likes to attack this way because it stretches the opposition and is much less risky than pushing a central midfielder on or playing with a Number 10. The only time Ken will ever get any support is when we're attacking from wide, and let's face it, that isn't really support, is it?

That's why I would play with one specialist winger (Murphy), and have the right-midfield/full-back pushing forward down the right flank when required. This would allow Reid to play closer to Zohore, and he could also drift out wide. Two wingers and Zohore on his own hasn't been very effective in the Premier League so far.

How’s Murphy’s hamstring? He was struggling a bit on Saturday.

Oh great... So we could have lost 3 wingers in 3 games! Let’s hope we can still field a team at the end of September...
