About time imo he’s been a great player but I think I could count on 1 hand how many decent innings he’s had the last few years

    An all time great.

However England need to find 2 openers and a no.3.

Cook should retire now. Otherwise he should be dropped. His form is shocking and he doesnt deserve his place.

If seems likely Jennings is going to be given another chance it means a new player wont come in and a failing top order continues.

Id bring in Burns Vince and play Pope at 6.

Cook deserves a send off, there is room for sentimentality when he's been an all time great, as you say, and we've wrapped up the series.

I'd play Burns on his home ground for his debut over Jennings and the same team. England can't bat so we may as well pad out the lower order, and Ali is so much better when he's not the number one spinner (even if he is really).

Its gone a bit silly with the Moeen situation now, you cant carry and extra spinner in your team in UK conditions because it makes another person more comfortable. The captain clearly is not keen bowling Rashid. Might as well say Root is your number 1 spinner in these circumstances, drop Rashid and bring in a specialist number 3.

I think Rashid will be left out but will be on both tours where spin will be key.

However if England cant put totals in the 1st innings of 450 plus then hes going to struggle.

Bowling leg spin with 250 to defend is difficult unless your Shane Warne.

Moeen will get pasted away from home as our front line spinner, he bowls too many four balls. With Bess/Rash, they can both bat and so can Ali. We can just about get away with carrying an extra spinner, especially when we're playing Stokes and Curran. I'd play Rashid in Sri Lanka though, we'll need to bat well and there should be big scores down there so we'll need all the bowling we can manage.
