New Threatening Email Scam - Anyone Else ?

I received an email scam a few days ago which was new to me, only this time got a bit more of my attention, as it had my email and on old access password.

The crux of the email is that it has bugged your machine and taken video through your webcam of you watching porn. The threat was that if I didn't pay $1000 in to an anonymous bitcoin account within 48 hours all of my contacts would receive the video and a complete record of my browsing history. When I googled it it seems this is becoming more prevalent, with some paying the 'ransom' and record of some being drawn to taking their own lives. Of course I have no concerns in relation to my browsing, but the main point is, its bollux and a real low aim at people who feel their whole life could be turned upside down.

.......if only they could find these scumbags.

Search Jim Browning on youtube. He is on a crusade to bring scammers to justice and some of his videos are really entertaining to watch. Especially when he takes control of their machines, gets the records of people who have been scammed, then reaches out to those people to inform them.

I think the stat is something like 70% of blokes have viewed porn online at sometime. Even if it's 50% that's an awful lot of men who are going to think it has a genuine connection to their online history. Suffice to say I received one of these a couple of months ago and whilst I would class myself as pretty down to earth and normally untroubled by such crap, I too was taken aback for a few minutes until I got my calm head on and realized it was a scam. Further checking online confirmed...

Yeah I've had that, bit disconcerting when you see an old password. Luckily I do all my wanking with a balaclava on so I knew they didn't have my face, can imagine others getting caught out though

    It's says on their website
Action Fraud is the UK’s national reporting centre for fraud and cyber crime where you should report fraud if you have been scammed, defrauded or experienced cyber crime.
Does "I received a dodgy email that ignored" match any of that?

Don't click on it just so you can report it! I"m not 100% so understand your question but i think I would report it if it was me. In my head it's like catching someone trying to pick your pocket and stopping them and then reporting the attempt.

Even if not then it's something to keep in mind (hopefully never needed) for the future.
