    Grand Slam Of Darts

BDO involvement - 4 out so far including Durrant, Mitchell and McGeeney. In tomorrow's matches, only Wesley Harms has a realistic chance of making the knockout phase.

Last year, only 1 BDO player got out of the group stage.

I enjoy the tournament, but the BDO boys aren't having the best of times at it in recent years.

Durrant was unlucky, he's a good player.

The BDO have ended their stupid stance on the PDC, I'm not sure what all the implications of that will be but hopefully Durrant will come over now.

In this article Durrant says he won the BDO World Darts Trophy in front of a crowd of 29 people, less than 100 for the World Masters final too. Jirga would have a field day on the BDO message board.

The BDO's change of heart basically confirms that their organisation has lost the battle in claiming supremacy rights. Even 15 years ago the BDO was arguably stronger than the PDC if you took away Phil Taylor, who would never have won all his titles. However, the PDC wouldn't exist without the BDO and the importance of the BDO in the darting ladder is crucial. I mentioned a few years ago that I thought it could be a good place for fallen PDC players to revive their careers. It'll be interesting to see how Wes Newton and Andy Hamilton perform at Lakeside. I'm surprised the likes of Terry Jenkins hasn't given it a pop for a season.

Maybe now is the time for both organisations to merge. In footballing parlance we something akin to the PDC, which is the Premier League, and the BDO, the Football League, being responsible for the rest. The only issue would be that the Lakeside would cease to be the World Championship. The amateur level, brand it whatever, could have its own tournaments, strictly for those at that level, merged with the PDC's Challenge tour. I like the idea of having a youth tour as well.
