    Electromagnetic Sensitivity and Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity

I had to visit someone last night who isn't very well and besides having been an ME sufferer in tha past she is convinced that she suffers from the effects of electromagnetism caused by computers, mobile phones and wifi. She is an intelligent woman who has researched the subject extensively and is convinced that the aforementioned technologies are the cause of many of her ailments - so much so that she has, as she explained to me, made her house a Faraday cage. Her walls and ceilings were given two coats of black paint containing carbon particles before they were overpainted in traditional emulsions and she also employs other features such as specialised curtains etc.

I don't consider her to be a fanciful person and she is actually quite grounded. However, the medical world generally seems to discount the possibility that such hypersensitivity is real and the chemist I spoke to when collecting her tablets would have none of it.

I'll do a bit of reading up on the subject it in due course but I wondered if anyone on here (or family and friends thereof) have assigned problems to the same or similar causes.

Id never heard of it until I saw better call Saul, the main character’s brother has it and it’s seen as just a mental issue or so I thought.

I would think the em frequency we come into contact with us way too low frequency to have any affect at all on a human being.

Sorry I can't help you although I did think it was the name of OMD's first album

About 60 years ago some supposedly knowledgeable scientists claimed that watching TV was injurious to health because of the radiation given off and advised that TV should not be watched for more than an hour a day. As the years have gone by other "experts" have come forward with theories that suggestable people have latched on to about their wellbeing being compromised by new and emerging technological developments.

As you do further research into electromagnetic sensitivity you will probably find people who claim to be affected by such technology and an "expert" who will back it up.

Wasn't it more connected to electric waves , as he used candles , terrible illness.

It wasn't, but it would make a great name for their next one. 😂😂

Surely the question revolves more about making this person feel comfortable in their surroundings rather than debating whether or not it’s a genuine phenomena

It's not something that I've come across and I've worked in the industries that you mention for nearly 45 years, which includes working with & having H&S responsibility for probably in excess of 10,000 people over that period. I've got no medical expertise but I would have thought I'd have come across it somewhere! Just out of interest does she have Tinnitus?

One can visit, support and help people whilst educating oneself about a condition that they say they have.

She doesn't have tinnitus but she says that the electromagnetism cause shingles in her face to re-appear and it causes twitching in her limbs. I respect what she says without question whilst having read reports that no such phenomenon has ever been proven. I was just interested to see if anyone else on here perceived themselves (or anyone they know) as being in the same boat.

I've an acquaintance who swears that EMF has some ill effect (I forget) on her health. I'm sceptical too. I seem to remember reading a study that found that these people get sick when they think there is an electromagnetic field present, as opposed to when it's actually present.

I'd be interested in a blind test, where the person was bathed in (say) wifi signal, then the signal was turned off at some point & we'd see if the sufferer noticed when it was turned off (& then on again). Without that, I'm unconvinced by any testimony.

I was also going to ask if she suffers from tinnitus.

Ironic, but wasn't there something on telly before about people complaining of headaches caused by the transmitter in St. Hilarys?

It's one of those things that would not be easy to prove ,or anyone would want too fund it properly ?? and if it was jyst imagine the impact it would have around the world if proven , its a bit like the investigation into brain tumour and mobiles ,difficult one and one perhaps corporations and Goverments may not be enthiastic in pursuing??

    It's a phenomenon! Sorry I'm in a pedantic mood.
