Isn' t it strange in this age of French far right/left demonstrate're taking to the streets about social injustice, they almost ignore in the same French streets the indulgences of a bloated rich football club ,paying obscene wages and transfer fees .

It’s strange that a country like France that had people who were forerunners in World football hasn’t had a lot of club success.

Very good internationally though, if you have one or two rich clubs, the rest can go to hell, its like that across Europe though , Premiership fast approaching that but probably more rich boys than most leagues .

Countries should model themselves on the Championship

PSG are perfect to invest into. Such a weak league guarantees Champions League qualification every year which probably earns the club £30/40m every season.

They are not that well supported considering

Well here's a suggestion , and cry for help " dear millionaire , please take us over , resign us for the football league ,take up an occupancy in the Welsh League "" we too could be watching the great and good and winning the Champions league , with celebrities filling the stands, is it that simple ??

Even internationally it took a while to win their first title (1984) and until 1998 to win the World Cup. Not very well supported either, had a look through their league game attendances last weekend, fans must be rattling around in those stadiums we visited in 2016. Original World Cup named after its instigator Jules Rimet, the Euro trophy after the tournament’s main founder Henri Delauney. Le Ballon D’or etc, they’ve done a fair bit to promote the game.

The successful French sides of recent times are mainly due to their non-indigenous players, Henry, Zidane, Mbappe etc. Thirty years ago they were decidedly third-rate..

32 years ago they got a World Cup Semi final with Platini as captain. Cant have been that third rate.

30 years ago (give or take 6 months) they were European champions.

But it was 90 odd years ago that Jules Rimet was behind the first World Cup, Henri Delauney was also suggesting a European Nations tournament around the same time even though he didn’t see it happen until 1960. It seems they had great forward thinkers in their hierarchy a bit before their forward thinkers on the pitch.

Not really related to the post I was replying to, but yes 90 years ago they were no good. Third place in the 58 World Cup though, beaten by Pele as we were.

Aren't France predominantly a rugby nation?

They won the u20's world cup but the senior side has been disappointing for a few years now, the only team that could beat New Zealand away and lose to Italy at home the next week
