Latest tweet that it’s back up and running, can’t they get a sniper to smash those fecking things into a thousand pieces?

This is something they brought up on BBC 5 Live last night.

They said that if this was in the US or in Israel, there'd be no problem as it would be shot down before anyone else knew about it.

Our bobbies have seemingly mulling over what to do for more than a day now.

There is still hope that they'll bring 'em down with a stern word in the ear.

I should add that they must be careful as not to offend anyone in the process....

ref shooting it down, they can travel at 30 mph plus, that small dot in the sky moving at 30mph plus, its not a easy shot

All this means misery for drone enthusiasts and for those who sell and manufacture them in the UK. It seems amazing to me that man walked upon Area 51, er, the Moon 49 years ago but no-one has the wit to safely remove them from the sky in 2018.

Of course they could shoot them down, the technology has been there for ages. What is stopping them is the fear of several Kg of drone falling out of the sky and killing people.

We have known about the threat for a long time, but haven't really developed a strategy to deal with it it. I guess after Gatwick, we will.

What are the odds on a total ban?

Should have got them shot down within a few minutes. I assume there are people clever enough now to fly these things from long way away.

Hope the person gets arrested and done on terrorism charges.

Re: Gatwick shut again drones are back

I think shooting them down is a lot harder than people think.

    Ban the stupid things.
Can only see them being of use to terrorists and drug runners etc.
    Same with automated cars.

Couple of helicopters, guy on each side with a shotgun, problem solved?

Shotgun = short range so very little risk of stray pellets.

Hit a drone with shotgun = lots of small parts fluttering slowly to ground?

Yeah I'm sure the guy is going to keep his drone nice and still for them while they get all their helicopters ready.

The ability to stop drone attacks is apparently lacking, we should be thinking about this one in HD

I don’t agree with the premise that it is a harder shot than we believe. without making my self sound like a billy big bollocks, I have hit a running rabbit at 150-200 yards numerous times and don’t consider myself a trained marksman.

Plus the footage I have seen shows a LARGE industrial style drone hovering at average altitudes, clipping it with a 1.77 pellet would highly likely bring it down with very little risk of the pellet causing collateral damage

Not sure I'd be too happy with taking a helicopter near a drone. If whoever is controlling it decided to fly it into the copter rotors, or it happened accidentally, who knows what damage it would do?

I wonder if this company have had any enquiries lately (British too!)?

    https://openworksengineering.com/

The Chinese police have a special lazer gun purposely designed for taking down drones. They apparently deployed it at the China Vs Wales game earlier this year. I didn't actually see it when I was there, but I saw on the local news here that they were trialling it and had it on standby at the game.

Your totally underestimating how high these drones are, well out of range of a 12 bore and a pelet gun. maybe a military rifle of a killing distance of a mile would do it but then it would be difficult.

Alright mate firing a shotgun out of a helicopter at a moving object will work

You’ve been watching too much die hard!
