Thread: FT: GILLINGHAM 1 - 0 CARDIFF CITY. Match thread

Re: GILLINGHAM v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread

Poor in the final third. Don't know what the pitch is like but seems to take us a couple of touches at times to get the ball under control, Harris and mendez particularly at fault, assuming down to lack of match sharpness maybe.

Lots and lots of possession but very little creativity.
A top striker would be pulling these apart.

Well in control really although they did have one decent headed chance ( they did have another but it was offside, so no problem at all). We do need to turn possession into goals though or are we overawed🤪 by having so much of the ball??

No good being ‘able to play there’, if they play it should be in their proper position or you are setting them up to fail ?
Centre midfield of all positions isn’t one you will get shown up unless you play there regularly. I know that from painful experience of chasing shadows of 2 lads who were good enough to be pros and playing in the Rhymney Valley League !

I don’t think it would help much to throw them into an unfamiliar role at this level even if they ‘can play there’

As I said to Paul, I thought Waite played wide midfield and Humphries up front.

Is that not the case ?

If you guys watch regularly I’m sure you know better than me.

Hopefully we get a bit of comfort and the lads can come on and show what they can do.
Humphries is a defensive midfield player who could play a bit further forward if required. Waite could play in central midfield or out wide, but he's better in advanced areas, I'd say a number ten role suits him best.

I don't see why coxe wasn't given the nod over peltier, as been mentioned good play up to the final 3rd then lose the plot, I would've rested pato today

Paterson having a mare. Needs to come off. We're clueless in the last 1/3rd. (He'll now score!)

Me too. He's worked hard lately. I was expecting NW to pick as many first teamers. Why is Reid playing like a no 10? We should be playing 4-4-2 and ****ing murdering them.

Playing Paterson just plays right into Gillingham's hands

Perhaps he just wanted to see (well hope) if Paterson and Reid could strike up some sort of partnership.
If nothing else, this has highlighted the desperate need for a striker/poacher.

Been watching a stream in Portuguese and could only work out 10 City players. Thank you for letting me know Reid was playing.

    Amazing defence....

.. glad we can focus on the Prem though without a replay and possible round 4 match.

Re: GILLINGHAM v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread

We have better, cleverer players than Gillingham, what should we do? Lump it up to a right back
