Bad news for the rest of the division. Their squad is good, they might click under a new manager.

    They're too far adrift.

After 26 games last season, the team in 2nd had 49 points, the same total as this season's 2nd placed team. 2nd place ended up with 90 points. Fulham were on 39 points after 26 games and averaged 2.45 points a game to finish with 88 points.

If 2nd place is likely to be around the 90 point mark again this season for runners up, then Stoke are going to need 55 points from 20 games. Not even Fulham, as good as they were from this point last season, got close to that.

They're only 8 points off the playoffs. That's well within reach.

Possibly, but I doubt it. The squad looks good on paper, but thankfully football is played on grass. It certainly wouldn't be the first time a decent looking side finished mid table in the Championship. There's always the possibility that the next manager makes things worse as well :fingerscrossed:

It can't go worse than under Rowett . They've got Brentford next, which at present is a gimme.

Maybe they need to get rid of Joe Allen as well!

It took until today to sack Rowett because he was unable to get to the ground due to the cold weather

Wouldn't that be nice,I'm guessing he's key to the club stabilizing and any new manager in would want to see whose what before selling

    Re: Gary Rowett

It's a long time now since Rowett was performing well at Birmingham and was unfairly dismissed. Since then he's failed at Derby despite spending well, appearing a bit too arrogant during this spell, walked out to try and get a bigger job and now failed at Stoke despite, again, spending very well.

Where next for him? He's not going to find too many option apart from championship sides a bit desperate or league one sides who have just had their up-and-coming manager stolen. Ironically, this may be where he does his best work.

Rumour was that the Birmingham owners wanted Gary Rowett to sign a longer contract, which he was unwilling to do. That’s when they went for Zola.
