Thread: Player power at Wembley

    Player power at Wembley

Kepa, the Chelsea keeper flatly refused to be subbed and Sarri had to back down.

    Incredible

    Re: Player power at Wembley

    Unbelievable.

No way he can stay at the club now.

What a penalty shoot out this is

    Man City win on penalties

    Astonishing goings on

He'll be supporting a flyover on the M25 by Chelsea's next match.

If was Sarri I'd walk tonight. The club is a mess

Looked like he was walking before full time and who can blame disgraceful from keppa

    Re: Player power at Wembley

The keeper should be ashamed of himself

    Re: Player power at Wembley

Even more curious how he was allowed to partake in the penalty shoot-out after all that.

That's a shambles, terrible behaviour from Kepa

    Re: Player power at Wembley

Shouldn’t the game have been suspended until the change was made? It seems as though the officials were no help to the Chelsea management. Something's got to give at that club, going to be an interesting few days at the Bridge.

Media will be lap this up. Keeper benched for rest of the season and decision made in Summer regarding keeper and manger, but watch the headlines go OTT.

    Re: Player power at Wembley

    Totally out of order.
Yes Sarri will be gone soon but no matter what you think of your manager (in any line of business not just football) you should never ignore an instruction.

Ps Should Kepa have been sent off?

    Re: Player power at Wembley

Chelsea's squad is rotten to the core, Sarri should resign tonight because it's clear as day some of the players have no respect for him

Two fans on 5live want to talk about laws of the game and what responsibility the ref has, Sutton only wants fans to be angry at keeper and/or senior players and host wants to talk about future of Sarri.

I think it was just a total lack of communication between the Chelsea staff. Kepa seemed to go down just to try and waste some time.

They have then tried to make the change believing him to be struggling but he seems fine, if there was any doubt over his fitness I;m sure they would have just had to drag him off. I'm sure they also wouldn't have minded having Caballero in goals for the penalties, given he came from Man City.

    Any refs on here?
Surely to goodness there must be a rule covering this.
Once the decision has been made it should be binding and the ref enforces the substitution.
I am guessing that the player power talked about in the press regarding Chelsea has publicly manifested itself in this incident.
It really does appear to be toxic at that club.

Who was Chelsea captain? He's got to be over there telling Kepa to get off surely?

    Re: Player power at Wembley

He's bonkers I thought one of the Chelsea player's had to be restrained from getting to him.

Just checked the rules and apparently a player can refuse to leave the pitch.

No. Laws say if player is called to be subbed and refuses then play continues.

It was Chelseas responsibility to get him off, not the officials.

Sarri's properly played it down in his press conference

Sarri has backed down, which is not a good look. Apparently it was a small misunderstanding.
