    R.I.P Ranking Rodger (The Beat)

So sad, following on for the death of Scott Walker yesterday. Rodger was only 56, which is no age today.

Hard to believe he was only 56. That means he was younger than me but I think of the Beat as a band I first heard when I was a youngster so assumed all the members were older than me

    Awfully sad news.
Seen them back in the day, also a number of times over the last few years and had some great nights.

    RIP Roger.

Am I allowed to say that's Ranking's full stop? Sad news, though. I know other guys who I was in a ska band with had met him once and he had lots of time to chat with them, was on their level and interested in what they were doing. Sad loss for ska and music :-(

I always think of things like favourite record, favourite concert etc. as being ever changing and dependent on mood and circumstances, but, perhaps more than any other, I keep on returning to the Beat at the Students Union in 1982 as right up there among my favourite ever gigs - I played Wha'ppen to death in the early 80s.

    RIP.

I'm hoping Jonathan Ross will do the eulogy.

Was that comment off the cuff or off the wrist Bob?

Never a fan of the Beat, or their style of music, but 56 is a rediculously young age to go.
