Thread: O/T Funeral Music

    O/T Funeral Music

Having been to a couple of funerals recently ( must be my age ) I'm starting to think about mortality and getting "my shit sorted".

I wanted to avoid the usual dirge funeral hymns - is there any reason why I can't have the Welsh national Anthem?

I was also thinking of of a bit of Bob Marley at the end "Satisfy my soul" being my favourite.

You can ask for any music or service you like but you cannot guarantee that your "nearest and dearest" will abide by your wishes after you die.

A former colleague of mine had our anthem played as his coffin was shouldered out of the church.

My choice of funeral songs is Sympathy for the Devil by the Stones, and My Way by Sid Vicious. I've informed my family.

If you are religeous - Stairway to Heaven. If not Bat Out of Hell. Personally I couldn't care less about funeral arrangements or music as when you are dead you are dead.

My mate had "Danger Zone" (yes, from the Top Gun soundtrack) as they pulled the curtain around the coffin before the he was cremated. I've no idea why. But it was funny.

I've played the theme tune to the Godfather in a funeral once. I once heard "Don't Stop Me Now" by Queen!!

Go for whatever you want. Make a cd and put it away somewhere safe.

Some crematoriums have music on a large database and will only play what is on that system (no cds). Can always use a powerful bluetooth speaker and stream it from a phone or something.

Don't go down the Thornhill crem route and have pornography on the big screen, though.

    Funniest ever moment concerning funeral
music was at my mate’s Terry Cowlin’s funeral. Now this was before Rolf Harris’s fall from grace, Terry’s brother David requested Two Little Boys in memory of their childhood days growing up together. As the the curtains surrounded the coffin the music struck up................Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport boomed out.......well the crem erupted and Terry would have loved it😂😂😂

Got to be Stairway to Heaven, it's so apt.

If your getting buried, then it’s got to be the Jam Going underground.
If your getting cremated then it’s got to be the Platters and Smoke gets in your eyes.

My son died recently and I had to pick the music for his funeral, so i picked one from Oasis as it was his favourite band ( I hate them though!) but I couldn't resist You'll Never Walk Alone by Gerry and The Pacemakers. He used to come down the City with me and would have enjoyed though, I did even though I was bawling my eyes out.
