Thread: Our players worked hard tonight and were a credit to the shirt.

Our players worked hard tonight and were a credit to the shirt.

We lack quality and Man City ooze it.
Yes it needed Etheridge to keep the score down but even so every player worked hard.
Sadly we couldn’t keep the ball and when we did have it they won it back or we give it back.
Niasse’s limitations are obvious but he seemed to work harder tonight than on Sunday.
Whatever happens, we are fighting if not winning.

A credit to the shirt? You’re joking, right? Both Newport and the Jacks gave Man City more problems than Warnock’s mob last night. There were lengthy periods during the second half where the home side’s players actually looked bored!

Overall, it was a pitiful performance. Etheridge did really well again and Morrison gave everything he had, but the rest? Very poor. They are supposed to be Premier League footballers. Sadly, they didn’t look anything like it last night.

Both Swansea and Newport played City at Home

TLG is mostly on a wind up these days but he is correct in the above post, the performance smacked of a team knowing it was already beat before kick off and having already accepted that fate. It was one of the dullest games I've seen in a very long time. There was certainly a feel of a hangover from the end of the Chelsea game last night. All ifs and buts but if we had held on against Chelsea ( and avoided the injustices of the decisions against us that day) then I think we would have seen a very different performance last night, one with a bit of bite and passion which had been on display against Chelsea. As it was it seemed we were going through the motions

I'm hoping we'll see a much improved performance against Burnley and Brighton but if Burnley get something against Bournemouth before we play again it might already be too late by then

Oh yeah! That makes a massive difference! I’ve completely reassessed City’s performance in light of this valuable information. It was commendable.

Think we needed a plan b - if Man City went ahead we should have gone for it a bit, our Goal Difference is so bad it wouldn't have mattered if we'd lost 2-0 or 8-0.

The issue is that they are players who are playing in the Premier League rather than ‘Premier League players’. Of course, we would all like to see a team of players who could take on the opposition and beat them. That was never going to happen on Wednesday, particularly after conceding the early goal and after a game just three days before.
We are who we are, not who we might like to be.

if you include last season fa cup tie , both Newport and Swansea created and caused man city more problems than our three games against them combined

How demoralised do you think the players would have been had we lost 8-0 or 6-0?

Our players are working hard and are showing self belief which are our only assets to compensate for a lack of quality.
That endeavour was almost enough against Chelsea.
Of course we are going to need to try harder to score against Burnley and Brighton whilst not conceding.
