Tried this one and an nasty message started talking to me saying my computer was locked and up and none of my keyboard and mouse were working and not to turn anything off, but phone a number to sort it out.

I did turn it off and it seems to be working after re-booting it.

Any experts on here know if it's likely to have done any damage ?

Okay thanks for the warning, I used my lap top to go on my banking just in case. Will be on the phone to Mike on Monday to come and check it all over.
