What was our best team then? And would it have been good enough?

    Etheridge

    Peltier
    Bamba
    Manga
    Bennett

    Mendez (if its hot)
    Camerasa
    Arter
    Gunnarson
    Murphy

    Reid

For me thats probably our best shot. Yes i know it doesnt have any strikers but we dont have any to pick from really?

That side would have got about 20 points.

It’s more on the approach of the game plan, I have my idea on what the starting eleven should be but if they went out playing warnockball they probably wouldn’t pick up a point

In NML and Murphy you have players who are flaky. Occasionally brilliant but more often ordinary and not so good defensively as Hoilett.

Desperately needed stronger full backs, a 'PL quality' centre half and a striker that scores goals. We might have stayed up but still a huge task.

Think we were at our best during the Paterson up front period.

If anyone can prove me wrong statistically, then please do

I don't think this team ever played together, but I would like to have seen:

    Etheridge

    Bennett
    Morrison
    Ecuele Manga
    Peltier

    Arter
    Gunnarsson
    Camarasa

    Murphy
    Reid
    Paterson

    Some stats about Paterson

Starting as a striker - 1.14 points per game
Starting overall - 1 point per game
Without Paterson starting - 0.6 points per game

    Etheridge

    Peltier
    Manga
    Morrison/Bamba
    Bennett

    Gunnarson
    Arter
    Camarasa

I'm not sure about the front 3 which was half the problem.

I don't think it really matters. Every one of our players has a mistake in them or poor judgement/decision making etc. The only player that i've seen this season who looks to do the right think more often than not is Bobby Reid. Another player i'll give some praise is Peltier, i find it very difficult to criticise him, he plainly isn't good enough at this level although he has enough intelligence to try and play within his limitations, he doesn't hide or pass players on, a really good pro.

Don’t think the injuries to an already threadbare midfield have helped.

Artur, Camerasa, Ralls , Patterson all out today ( bar 10 minutes) and all of these missed significant chunks of the season- as did Gunnar.

So start him as a striker every week? NOT the answer.

I think whoever we played up front would have problems.
I know discussing this with fellow ST people around me we all agreed that Harry Kane upfront would not have made much difference.
If this is true our more dfield, tactics and style of play need changing

    David Marshall
    Kevin McNaughton
    Mark Hudson
    Tony Capaldi
    Mark Kennedy
    Chris Burke
    Stephen McPhail
    Joe Ledley
    Peter Whittingham
    Jay Bothroyd
    Michael Chopra

    Could have finsihsed top ten.

The obvious response to that question is to ask what did Niasse, Ward and Zohore do that was better than Paterson's contribution as a striker? The answer to this question is not necessarily an endorsement of Paterson, but an evaluation that the rest of our strikers were utter gash.
