I never found him funny, but comedy, like music is very subjective.
And I certainly wouldn't be able to make a living from either.

Comedy and music definitely do date arguably comedy more so than music these days.
Both are at their best when they seem new, inventive and daring, and that is always lost with the passage of time.
Watching only fools these days is the televisual equivalent of putting on a well worn pair of slippers.
Someone might be absolutely enjoying listening to Stravinsky's the rite of Spring on BBC radio 3, but the original performance of it caused riots.

It's amusing that the following instrumental track was banned by radio stations in New York and Boston in 1958 as it was considered that it may incite violence.
