Thread: Wales squad

    Wales squad

Surprised there’s no thread on this but in a nutshell no Ben Davies, Aaron Ramsey, James Chester or Paul Dummett.
Disappointing that Davies is available for Spurs on Saturday but not for Wales a week later as he’s having an op.

No idea why Dummett is unavailable. Chester is no surprise as he still seems to be struggling with a knee injury.
So we are a bit light at the back but Ampadu is back.

    I would go with

    Hennessey
    Roberts
    Williams
    Mepham
    Taylor
    Ampadu
    Allen
    Smith
    Brooks
    Wilson
    Bale

    Is Bale match-fit?

It’s him or Wilson isn’t it? Not sure if James will be ready given the loss of his father. We look a little light at the back.

I'd have James in for Wilson just for the pace on the counter attack

He hasn’t played much recently but nor has Hennessey or Ampadu. It’s far from ideal preparation for two difficult games. I can’t believe Ben Davies isn’t involved.

He should definitely be involved but I would bring him on against tired players in the second half.

He also adds balance to the team when he plays on the left. With him and Brooks we are gueninely dangerous down both flanks.

Fair enough. He was our best player against Slovakia. We could start him ahead of Wilson with Brooks on the other wing and Bale up top.
Our central midfield will lack creativity so we need our wide players to produce.

Surprised to see Tom Lockyer released by Bristol Rovers but it seems Hull and Forest are interested. Maybe we should be too. Also, seems bad management by Rovers to let your captain go for nothing.

It's a bit too soon for Levitt, but he is a step up when it comes to creativity. If he fulfills his potential, we could have one of the best passers of the ball in Europe. I can see why Giggs is in a hurry to get him into the senior squad.

Davies waiting for a hernia op, isn't he? Tyler Robert also having a surgery, Dummett has picked up an injury and Terry Taylor (Wolves youth) too. There are concerns on twitter that Chester may not play for Wales again as he seems to have picked up a long term injury that needs to be managed throughout the rest of his career.

Chester is a worry. It would be a real shame if we lost him for good especially as Williams won’t be around much longer.

Maybe Lockyer let his contract run out to give him a bigger pay day when signing for someone else? Happens plenty of times.

Ben Davies scheduled for an op straight after Champions League Final.

Cardiff boy, would be a great replacement for Connelly! Ah but we don’t sign Welshmen!

    Non story apparently

Must have been the mother of the boy who complained about Bellers

    Typical of carrot crunchers

From what I gather, he’s been the fittest he has been for a while (reasonably injury free this season). He’s just been dropped by Zizou.

Just going from the age and level of a many players in the squad, we could probably have signed or could be a realistic destination for a fair few of the players in the squad.

I for one would be very happy if we adopted a model similar to that of Athletic Bilbao and tried to sign Welsh players. I feel like a lot is made of us as fans from Wales when we are in England and that our difference to the rest of the clubs in that respect has earned us some kudos. I reckon that if we had a strong core of 7/8/9 players who are eligible fir the national team it’s add to that sense of unity. I for one would feel more connected to the team if we had a Welsh core. That’s not to say that I’m standoffish with the current squad, but it’s definitely add something for me. That’s one of the reasons I’m not keen on NW and would like someone like Craig Bellamy to have a go.

Iwan Roberts said on the Elis James podcast that Regan Poole is about to be released by Man Utd. Had a good loan spell at Newport, apparently. Could be a good addition.

I’m not 100% sure about his ability but he must have something about him if Manure wanted him.

Pretty much zero chance of that happening under NW though. I think that will be the most worrying thing about keeping him on as manager, he’s likely to leave an old-ish squad. Tough for whoever comes after him.

And in the shop window, so it's to him to make the most of our next two fixtures!
