It could be that alliances have changed since the previous leadership race and that an individual who knew about the situation (and it is believed that a number of people in his circle did) is now batting for another side. If you've been following the Trump stitch-up you would know exactly where this kind of stuff comes from, and it's the same in every country. This is possibly the only time it has come under the microscope though, due to the target actually being voted into office and controlling the machinery. This sort of operation rarely fails.
