Thread: New signings

    New signings

Let’s hope we can bring in a couple of new faces before our pre season trip to the USA on July 13th.
We always seem to be a little behind on signings.
Not sure if it is due to the attraction of the club, manager or wages offered.

We can probably buy players now and pay their wages, or get good players who have run their contract down, but are still under contract until midnight on the 30th. June we can still talk to them but not sign them until the end of their contract

Or they could 'sign' on a pre-contract agreement before June 30th e.g. Ramsey to Juve.

true! but the thing is players out of contract are going to see who comes in for them to get the best deal. I think though that we are going after a few players that will cost us money and a new striker quite a lot

We always seem slow starters during transfer windows. When was the last time we signed someone early January/June or even ahead of the window opening like Derby did?

It is very easy to criticise from a distance but who have all the other Championship clubs signed then ? There has been very little activity to date anywhere, mainly due to most contracts not expiring until June 30th, players being away on holiday, clubs not wanting to sell until they get a replacement and the desire by many players/agents to wait until as close as possible to the deadline to see who is interested. I am sure that the manager and staff are working very hard to get players in.

We signed Murphy, Cunningham and Reid in June 2018. Sala and Niasse in January 2019.

He asked for specifically "early January/June". I'm not sure what he perceives as being early in a month but I think we can certainly rule out some of the players that you mentioned in this case.
