    Assombalonga

    Re: Assombalonga

I'm all for spending big money for a striker because good established strikers cost a lot of money, and you can't rely on developing one, but I can't see that this guy justifies 15m.

    Re: Assombalonga

Double figures two seasons running in a defensive Middledbrough side is pretty good

    Re: Assombalonga

Fantastic signing if we can pull it off.

    Yes to this rumour

    Re: Assombalonga

Neal Maupay would be better, but I think w brom are after him

  7. #7

    Re: Assombalonga

Don’t think Maupay would relish playing at the Cardiff City Stadium after that sitter he missed a couple of seasons back.

    Re: Assombalonga

Can he do it in the premier league? Aren't there cheaper championship level goal-scorers if not?

  9. #9

    Re: Assombalonga

Would be a good signing in my opinion. And a relatively "reasonable" fee.

He signed for Boro two years ago for the same amount and has since scored 30 goals. I think it's a good deal.

I didn't see a value quoted in the reports linking Assombalonga to us (and other clubs).

He went to Boro for 15m 2 years ago (when they met - or exceeded - the buy-out clause in his Forest contract) and gave him a 4 year deal. I imagine Boro will want to recoup most of that and given the way transfer fees have gone in the past few years will see 15m or more as a fair value - but I haven't seen that reported anywhere.

    Sheff Utd 15m

  13. #13

    Re: Assombalonga

That's 500,000 a goal plus wages. Doesn't sound like great value to me.
I think Sir Neil has made it plain that he's got his sights on two specific players and maybe a third and I doubt this rumour .

    Re: Assombalonga

I'd love it if this was true, would be a great signing!

    Re: Assombalonga

A front four of Murphy/Reid/NML and Assombalonga would be devastating.

    Re: Assombalonga

0.52 goals per 90 at this level is good

Zohore is at about 0.4 though even including his lean spells, and contributes a lot more assists.

Would be nice Im one way - hes a threat and scores goals.
However, hes be expensive and is inconsistent- not sure that hes a big upgrade on Zohore .. whos a better player, but even more inconsistent.

    Re: Assombalonga

Hes a Warnock style striker thats for sure. Big, strong, direct. I can see why we would be linked if its true that hes available.

How will they fit his name on the back of his shirt?

Secretly a Cardiff fan - remember he is the player who pegged Fulham down (Fulham 2-2 Brentford) in the last minute to put us above them for the last few games

I dont read too much into this as so many of his appearances have been from the bench.

His goals per minute as mentioned above is comparable with Assombalonga and he has a better assist ratio.

Hes ( Zohore) an excellent player, just not often enough.

Or is he just an average player who has brief spells of being above average ?

He is a lot better than just "above average" when playing to his full ability - he's a very frustrating player, but I don't think we've played to his strengths for getting on for two years now.

Hes not rhe big battering ram upfront that people want him to be and Warnock would like him to be.

Hes got decent feet for a big lad and getting him down the channel would be playing to his strengths not whacking the ball up to him head height.

Its why Patterson looks more productive in a Warnock side as chasing lost causes and challenging for long balls in the air is up his street. Patterson would look awful upfront for a side who play football.

I think Ken would benefit from a Bobby Reid playing closer to him and maybe we will be able to afford more of that now were back in the championship.

Spot on Ken could be a great player:

It's the same fee as Sala, isn't it? That's a player we thought could really compete at a higher level so if we feel that about Assombalonga it's a good fee but if we have doubts then it's too expensive.
