I'm all for spending big money for a striker because good established strikers cost a lot of money, and you can't rely on developing one, but I can't see that this guy justifies £15m.

I didn't see a value quoted in the reports linking Assombalonga to us (and other clubs).

He went to Boro for £15m 2 years ago (when they met - or exceeded - the buy-out clause in his Forest contract) and gave him a 4 year deal. I imagine Boro will want to recoup most of that and given the way transfer fees have gone in the past few years will see £15m or more as a fair value - but I haven't seen that reported anywhere.

Double figures two seasons running in a defensive Middledbrough side is pretty good

Fantastic signing if we can pull it off.

    Yes to this rumour

Neal Maupay would be better, but I think w brom are after him

    Re: Assombalonga

Don’t think Maupay would relish playing at the Cardiff City Stadium after that sitter he missed a couple of seasons back.

Can he do it in the premier league? Aren't there cheaper championship level goal-scorers if not?

He signed for Boro two years ago for the same amount and has since scored 30 goals. I think it's a good deal.

It's the same fee as Sala, isn't it? That's a player we thought could really compete at a higher level so if we feel that about Assombalonga it's a good fee but if we have doubts then it's too expensive.

Secretly a Cardiff fan - remember he is the player who pegged Fulham down (Fulham 2-2 Brentford) in the last minute to put us above them for the last few games

    Re: Assombalonga

Would be a good signing in my opinion. And a relatively "reasonable" fee.

    Sheff Utd 15m

    Re: Assombalonga

That's £500,000 a goal plus wages. Doesn't sound like great value to me.
I think Sir Neil has made it plain that he's got his sights on two specific players and maybe a third and I doubt this rumour .

I'd love it if this was true, would be a great signing!

    Re: Assombalonga

A front four of Murphy/Reid/NML and Assombalonga would be devastating.

    Re: Assombalonga

0.52 goals per 90 at this level is good

Zohore is at about 0.4 though even including his lean spells, and contributes a lot more assists.

    No he's not. Nowhere near.

Excluding last season's stats in the Premier League, he's made 80 appearances in Championship and cup, scoring 23 goals. That's an average 0.29 goals per game. He averages 1 assist in every 8 Championship games.

Assombalonga has indeed contributed less assists, but it's hardly as if Zohore is contributing heavily on that score, either.

    Per 90, not per appearance

Add an in form Ken (hopefully) and it’s a front line to be excited about

I forgot about Ken, but then he has been forgetful recently. Yes, an inform Ken would be fantastic.

Would be nice I’m one way - he’s a threat and scores goals.
However, he’s be expensive and is inconsistent- not sure that he’s a big upgrade on Zohore .. who’s a better player, but even more inconsistent.
