    Crossrail could now cost £20b.
HS2 is now predicted to cost £86b
And we chose not to spend £3b making the the M4 in Wales fit for purpose.

I wrote to Chris Grayling about HS2 a couple of years back, saying that IMO it was going to be a colossal white elephant project. I never expected to hear anything back but indeed after a few weeks I got a two page reply from a civil servant in his department extolling the virtues of the project - how many jobs would be created, millions of £'s in extra trade, journey time saved etc etc. I argued then, and I still do, by all means improve transport links between the Midlands and the North-east/North west but forget about saving 20 - 30 minutes from London to Birmingham! £86 billion is an obscene amount of money.

It’s the same at 2 and 3 o clock in the morning. Utter pi$$ take. The best one is coming towards the tunnel set at 40mph then 20. Once you pass it’s miraculously 50 again.
