Thread: Who isn't needed now?

    Who isn't needed now?

Smithies is surely being paid too much for a third-choice goalkeeper.

Connolly has only played six times for us in the last two seasons.

We don't need four strikers, so one of Bogle, Madine and Ward.

Connolly is here because he's Connolly I'd guess. Is Richards needed? I'm not entirely sure why we gave him a new deal considering his injury record but having said that he is a good player if he can get fit. I think one striker is already surplus to requirements so if we sign another, two could go. I also don't see the point in Smithies being here, we might as well get Murphy back and cash in if we can as an awful lot has to change for Smithies to get a game.

Also, if we bring in a centre mid, Damour again looks like he's the odd one out.

    Tomlin.

Yes, we have too many players but we also have a lot who it might be argued have not had a good enough chance to show what they could do, and not in this league.

If you believe that a sustained run of games in the same position improves players, and also being first choice rather than a stand by, improves performance then.

Reid, Tomlin, Bogle, Ward, Madine, Damour, Richards, Cunningham, Smithies, Bacuna and Brian Murphy might all say that hasn’t happened for them.
If they are not good enough then, of course they shouldn’t be here.
But some were only signed last season and others did ok in the Championship.

Without going into forensic detail, we know all we need to know about the first two. Reid is a really good player, Tomlin is Tomlin! Bogle was daft and got sent off, Ward can't stay fit, same goes for Richards. Damour probably isn't good enough while Cunningham and Bacuna didn't really set the world alight but I dont think anyone is suggesting they should go. Smithies hasn't had a chance but that's because Etheridge has been so outstanding while Brian Murphy has left, and he's 36! And breathe.

Madine probably never got a real go, Ward can't stay fit to get one but the rest we either know all about them or they're squad players who hopefully can take the chance when they get it. One of the 3 strikers mentioned will surely go.
