Managers' tenures are so short that few of them know that they are going to be around to see any future talent bloom (or otherwise) - and Warnock said it's his last season so why would he think that way and have money spent on someone who wouldn't have a meaningful contribution this season?

Yes agree, you wouldn't think Warnock would be looking to the future in his last season. We signed 5 players in the summer and only one started on Saturday, we need a player "first team ready" now not another speculative punt in the hope he might come good in the future player

It seems we are going back to the Solksjaer days by signing players in random positions with no idea where to play them; it seems the policy is quantity over quality. Much money has been wasted by Warnock - £6m on Madine, £4m on Bacuna another £4m on Cunningham, £4m on Smithies, £1m on Tomlin and arguably £10m apiece on Murphy and Reid plus several others who can't even get into the team. I would much rather we spent money on one or two decent players rather than the rag bag of signings Warnock has made. In fact his only decent signings have been Bamba, Etheridge and Hoilllet which cost nothing and the loans of Camarassa and Arter. Tan must be wondering what the heck is going on.

Rob Phillips has said on Twitter that City are now looking elsewhere after failing to agree a fee for Gory.

None of this inspires me with confidence.

A winger who can play as a centre forward. Such a player does give Warnock options, but with the likes of Murphy, NML, Hoilett and Whyte available to play on the wing are Cardiff not better off at looking for an out and out goalscorer if they are looking to bolster the striking department?... Unless he actually wanted to sign another winger... Surely not!

    So we won’t be singing:———

    Gory, gory hallelujah
    Gory, gory hallelujah

    Gory, gory hallelujah
As the blues go marching on

No talk of any departures yet. Surely there will be two or three out of the door by Thursday? Not exactly rocket science but in order of likely leavers, I'll go Damour, Connolly (is he still at the club?), Cunningham, Tomlin, Bogle, Smithies.

So with Neil out injured for 6 weeks, you’d leave us with one fit keeper ????

I think the problem is Tan hasn’t got a clue what is going on which has enabled this ridiculous squandering of the club’s finances. Until such time as he appoints serious football people to the board and listens to them then not much is going to change.

Or you keep someone (who is probably on good money) on the books - and who is never going to start - for the sake of 5 weeks or so? It may be a risk the club is prepared to consider?

That doesn’t add up when we got promoted with 90 points with Neil and we’re arguably unlucky to go down as bha we’re a far worse side. The only money wasted so far is madine, smithies is a good player and so is Cunningham.

Regarding a player who obviously has no future at the club? If you say so.....

Brian Murphy could be brought back on a short-term deal. Just seems that something has happened between Warnock and Smithies and that even with this injury, the club may look at the bigger picture and get him off the books before the deadline.
