Thread: Paterson and his need to leave a mark on a player

Paterson and his need to leave a mark on a player

Consistently getting caught out by the referee and giving fouls away even when the ball was nowhere near him.
Allows the opposition to clear the ball when there’s a chance of a second phase opportunity. Frustrating as feck.

You do know this is his first game after a long term injury don't you ?

Does that mean he needs to barge and nudge a player off the ball every single time an attack has either phased out or in its second phase?
Free kicks were conceded because of it.

It's a frustrating part of his game. Sometimes when an opposition player has the ball very deep in their own half with nowhere to go (perhaps close to the touchline) if Paterson is the player on him you just know he's going to give him a nudge from behind, concede a freekick and relieve the pressure for the opposition.

His 1st game back for quite a while and he was out on arse after about 55 mins, yet Neil took Whyte off and moved Paterson wide! Think he had a bit of frustrating game, his 1st touch didn’t seem there and the way he leaves his leg in is frustrating. But I’m sure he’ll get up to speed after a few games.

Looked some way from full fitness I thought.

Glad someone else has noticed this, I like Paterson, but it's so pointless.

Some of our fans make me laugh

Unfortunately he hasn't got a proper position and will do a job in most but we wont go up with square pegs in round holes.
there are people in the squad to fill the positions, Warnock just needs to give them a chance Tomlin for one

Paterson is fantastic, he gives it his all no matter where he is played, he seems to win every header he goes for and he just keeps going covering a lot of ground. He does look not fully fit ( his arse did look huge or was it the shorts!!) but we’re a better side with him in it giving his all

His play style, pointed out here, has nothing to do with injury. He will always play this way, he loves the contact.

He’s always done this, what’s wrong with it being pointed out?

He gets fouled everytime he goes for the ball, when he fouls it is a booking.

But we went up and he was key in doing so 2 seasons ago.

I didn't see the game is it a case that Paterson is trying to make tactical fouls as to get into a better shape like Mourinho used to do.

I think it's down to his commitment, it's all or nothing, which restults and attracts the contact.

He reminds me of the tough no nonsense players of the 70's and 80', I know he's not for the football purest I just love his commitment and desire

Man City under guardiola do it. Barcelona did also. Foul foul foul.

Seems pointless but it’s much easier to defend and reorganise when the ball is dead.

It’s absolutely deliberate from him and one of the reasons he always gets in the team I think.
