    Re: Climate Change

I wonder how long this one will last before it's moved I couldn't imagine how difficult it must be to speak to the some of the highest ranking officials in the world, about a subject I feel incredibly passionate about, in what is not my first language. The image of Greta alone one year ago and now, as more and more consider what action is needed when the best available science (and the longer term impact) is being ignored because it makes short term economic growth more difficult, is an incredibly powerful comparison.

I do believe in Climate change and the consequences of it, but the people that she's addressing are on a hiding to nothing with this one, can't really tell a kid to ****off, can you?

Critically there have been times in the past when our climate has deteriorated and there have been really huge impacts on our society."

A striking example is the data gathered from the mid 1200s to early 1300s, with the oak rings reporting a prolonged period of above-average summer rainfall for many decades.

It coincides with a time of great famines, including what is known as the Dantean anomaly, when years of cool, wet summers resulted in crop failures - and the reported deaths of 20% of the population of Europe.
Of course, it was a "natural climate anomaly" back then. Couldn't possibly be natuarl these days, could it?
I know our CO2 emissions aren't helping, but a volcano or two puts our efforts in the shade.

You clearly haven't understood the evidence.

Here is some evidence which makes interesting reading.
Globally, the UK is not even in the top 15 of carbon emissions and in fact is measured at 1.1%.
Compared to the international table, tighter laws in the UK would not make any difference to GLOBAL climate change.
50% of the emissions are down to 3 countries.

Maybe we could be charged a negative tax so that we get all of our energy cheaper as a reward, and as an incentive for the biggest polluters to follow our example?

It wont be enough for them , this movement in my view is about attacking capitalism , climate is just a front and emotional mechanism .

Strangely they will need capitalist generated money and solution , along with bigger tax on product , more sophisticated packaging and products , such as electric cars , all of which will badly effect the lower paid and their current manufacturing jobs.

I suggest the rebellion take their army off to China , Russia and India ( SEE HOW WELL THAT GOES ) rather than take on a tolerate country trying to do the right thing , yes we are slow , however there is a reason for that , it will cost trillions to deploy in the timescales demanded by these warriors ,and those trillions are not growing on a tree ??

My fear is that extinction rebellion will push this issue so fast that everyone will have to admit that China, India and African countries will be unable to carry out the required changes unless the west start contributing money.

The volcanic argument has been debunked many times over

She's being exploited by adults including her parents. I did see pictures of her on twitter yesterday dressed in an antifa top but put it down to being a fake picture.

Maybe, but I don’t perpetuate my views represent others or put myself in the limelight.

That's because you're an unremarkable individual with nothing important to say - somebody who will leave no kind of mark of whatsoever on mankind and who will never do, say, write or produce anything that will ever be remembered by anyone but your closest friends and relatives after you die.

You're like most of us - a nobody.

I don’t disagree, I’m happy with that; but Greeta doesn’t represent my views nor do they represent millions of other ‘nobodies’.

I don’t want to pay additional green fees, levies or taxes to offset other countries that don’t care. To me there’s more pressing matters than climate, which will continue to change long after mankind is long gone.

To me, you appear to be a classic example of everything that is wrong with mankind. In my opinion, our species is completely and utterly knackered because it not only fails to learn from its mistakes but it actually becomes more and more stupid with each generation.

People like Greta may be inspirational to millions and good on her for trying to do something, she has my full admiration, but sadly I believe she's pissing in the wind because the vast majority of the people on this planet are ignorant, arrogant, idiotic, lazy, selfish morons. That belief, which I've harboured for many years, is getting reinforced to some degree every single day now.

As a species we're effectively finished.
