Thread: Ramsey and Matondo

    Ramsey and Matondo

Ramsey is starting for Juve today in a 4-3-1-2 formation playing behind Ronaldo & Dybala (2pm). This is his second consecutive start, and his 3rd appearance in the last 3 games, after coming back from a long layoff due to injury. This is excellent news for Wales with two important games coming up, and it is good to see that Sarri is recognising Rambo's attacking threat.

Matondo also starts for Schalke 04 v RB Leipzig after recovering from injury (2.30pm).

He just needs to stay fit. Any news on how close Brooks is to returning? I suspect he wont be fit until after the international break.

Yep, Ramsey needs to stay fit, but he also needs games.

Brooks 5 Live interview from earlier today starts at 12:49. I don't think we will see him in a Welsh jersey before November, but worth a listen.

Tyler Roberts, who I reckon would have played against Azerbaijan if he had been fit, isn't too far away from a return either it seems.

He was on the bench for the 1st team last week, after coming through an earlier U23 game unscathed.

Didn't realise that - wouldn't be surprised at all to see him start in at least one of the upcoming matches.

Matondo is starting up front for schalke alongside Guido Burgstaller.

At least they'll have something to talk about

    Re: Ramsey and Matondo

Matondo's speed is troubling RB Leipzig in a very good game. Burgstaller also playing.

    1-0 to Schalke 04.

Matondo will be featuring for Wales on this performance, he looks like a totally different player.

Now 3-0 with a very well taken goal by Rabbi.

Nice, calm finish in a situation which was made for him - I take it that was the third goal because Leipzig were wide open and that is a situation which is made for him.

Yep, 3rd goal. Matondo played as the main striker and he caused all sorts of problems with his pace. He was always ready to run at them from the half-way line. Him and James in the team would be a nightmare for any side, especially one with aging defenders.

Another great product of the man city academy just like Jadon Sancho...

****ed up my reply, rabbi's response to the tweet above.

If Sancho scored he would have been labelled English

Could he play in that position for Wales? Instinctively I'd say no, but maybe that's me being influenced by a lifetime of living in a country which believes you need to have a "big man up front"?

Schalke were ahead for most of the game which suits him down to a tee. I personally wouldn't fancy him up top in a tight game for Wales where he'd have to create his own space and pick the ball up in little pockets. Would be a lot more effective as a winger running off a big man in my opinion.

Schalke were ahead because of their tactics. RB Leipzig had only conced 3 goals in the previous 5 games, and they had the best defensive record in the Bundesliga. I noticed in the Benfica CL game that Leipzig were vulnerable to a quick counterattack when the opposition scored a superb goal on the break, so it looks like David Wagner did his homework.

This is a very old fashioned view, and one that still affects my thinking to some degree But it does seem as though the smaller skillful players who play at pace are more effective in the modern game. Of course you do need a manager who can put it all together.

If Rabi was English he wouldn't be described as British: https://twitter.com/Caibo_/status/1178038698312683527

He held his run well to make sure he wasn't offside, had a good first touch and then a composed finish. He's always had pace but that sort of intelligence and technique on top is something really exciting to see.

Nice tweet about Ramsey's latest performance too: https://twitter.com/IndianRegista/st...43469949509634

Ramsey raises the technical quality of this team and gives us box to box energy. For the first time since Pogba in 2015/2016, we have a complete box to box midfielder.
