If this is the cost of Cardiff alone ,what cost the total cost are for taxpayers across the UK

I just looked, in 17/18 Cardiff university had a turnover of more than £500 million! Most businesses that size will have many people on more than £100k
Almost like its a Russell Group university employing experts in their fields
ones for the future
just surprised it was high up the earnings table , Cardiff is only behind the University of Edinburgh (335) and the University of Manchester (331) on the list.
University funding isn’t all taxpayer money either.
I don’t see much of an issue with this. The best universities need the best staff.
£100k, whilst a lot to many, isn’t actually that much in this age
Today’s angry Daily Express faux outrage is brought to you by.....
There won't be 250 senior lecturers though. Agree a lot of lecturers would earn that much but not as a salary. They will have multiple sources of income. I know we pay consultancy fees to academics but I think it is paid direct to them, not via their university. As above, it is surely doctors and surgeons bumping up that number.
I take it from this, interesting reads https://www.business-live.co.uk/econ...iving-17081902
How much would you expect to earn if you had a PhD?
There is a pretty significant point accidentally made by the OP though. Under the current system it is impossible to assess the value for money of the university system as we don't know how much of the fee burden will need to be picked up by the taxpayer.
I am almost certain that is the point he was trying to make.
Universities are assessed via REF and TEF (whether they're fit for purpose is another argument) and these measures are linked to funding, so in reality value for money can be calculated to some degree. The average joe public may not know how much tax payer money has gone where, but that info will be recorded - how it's spent is a different matter.
