You call that a detailed analysis? I was expecting far more! Your standards are slipping! (only joking btw
)
15 of the 24 lost to sides from the Championship or Premier League. Of the remaining 9 that lost to teams in divisions below, 5 lost on penalties.
In the first round there were 3 all Championship ties, eliminating, erm, 3. 9 went through against lower division teams, 6 lost to lower division sides, half on penalties. 9 gone.
In the second round there were 4 all Championship ties, eliminating, by some surprise, 4. 2 lost to Premier League sides. 2 lost to League 1 sides, one on penalties. Another 8 gone, 17 in total. 7 left.
In the third round, 6 Championship sides faced Premier League teams and all lost. The remaining side, Stoke, lost to League 2 Crawley on penalties. 7 gone, 24 in total. 0 left.
Very unusual to see no Championship sides in the tournament after the third round, but 15 were beaten by sides in the top 2 divisions and more than half of the rest lost on penalties. A pretty rare turn of events I reckon.
