That’s more of a reflection of our poor strikers than Acorn’s ability.

Don’t get me wrong he’ll probably have a career at the first level in some of the top nations but judging by his goalscoring history this is an anomaly

He only played about 8.5 games worth of minutes in ligue 1. So 3 goals isn't terrible by any means

Or he couldn’t get in the Bordeaux team who finished 14th. The mental gymnastics people do to try and prove he was half decent is staggering. He was terrible for us and was terrible for a good while after.

It makes so much more sense to talk about goals or other actions per 90 minutes than per game, as someone who plays 5 minutes at the end of each game you wouldn't expect to have as many scoring opportunities as someone who plays the full game.

Its all hypothetical. A series of different games cannot be added up to equate one 90 minutes. Youre playing against different opponents, both as a team, and as individuals, different game scenarios, you could be 3 nil up, 3 nil down, a tight game etc.etc.

If you are playing 6 x 15 minutes, or 9 x 10 minutes at the end of the game, against tired defenders who have already played 75-80 minutes and youre fresh, that is not comparable to playing 1 x 90 minutes from the start.

In fact I thinks its nonsensical.

Substitutes do score at a slightly higher rate than players for a full 90, as they are against a tired defence, and attacking subs are likely to be chasing the game etc, but it's only a minor difference, which pales into insignificance in comparison to saying that playing for 90 minutes and playing for 5 minutes are the same thing.

If the manager had more faith that he could score more maybe, just maybe, he wouldnt be restricted to mainly substitute appearances. After all, he didnt turn up any trees when he was given starts in the team did he?
