I doubt this story is true.

There is nothing to suggest that the club approached anyone but Harris. For days we were supposed to be after one of two - but one of them (Bowyer) wasn't contacted. Then Mark Hughes was mentioned in dispatches without any sources. Then the original favourite was appointed. I'm sure the Board kicked around a lot of names, but my guess is they only spoke to one person - and gave him the job.
