70s I think this is Arthur Horsfield although I found your description of Swindon Town as a "West Country" side a bit confusing

Both answers are right - I can remember Swindon's League Cup win being extensively covered by BBC West who I seem to remember made a special programme about Don Rogers and their home matches were sometimes shown by HTV West (although Midlands ITV also covered them at times I think)..

I always considered Swindon as West Country growing up. It was covered on Points West and they speak with wurzel accents. A bit strange when you actually look at a map. Maybe it’s the UK’s “Gateway to the West”.

I work in Swindon and it is definitely West Country.
You only have to listen to the local accents! 🤣

When a friend from the Swindon area asked some kids in London for directions they asked him if he was a farmer! It is a West Country accent.

Swindon had a terrific Third Division team. Rogers and Noble stuck out. Around the same time QPR also had an exciting Third Division team. The League Cup was a big occasion in those days.

Well, I'm obviously in a minority of one so I stand to be corrected. I always considered the West Country to be Somerset, Devon and Cornwall. The concept of somewhere 60 or so miles east of Cardiff being in the West Country is something I will now have to get used to.

    Darren Pitcher for the 90s
    Nicky Bailey for the 00s
and (I assume) Dale Stephens for the 10s.

The 80s is a tricky one though.

No mention of Derek Hales. Didn't he score 30 goals one season?

    All correct.

I'm guessing you realise the 80s question is an anagram - if it was a crossword clue it would have 6,5 at the end of it.
