This same Jesus “bloke” that you ridicule came to show the world a better way to live i.e. to put your neighbour first but sadly humankind has in the main rejected that idea and gone its own sweet way. For every action (or inaction) there are always consequences and that is how we are where we are at today. Everyone of us is guilty as we become trapped into a world view that is based on “growth” which is what drives the exploitation of others and the devouring of the world’s resources at an accelerating pace which in turn leads to excessive CO2 production/climate change.
We may deny that that is the case but whether we like it or not we are all ensnared, as an example witness the commercialisation of Christmas with folk spending beyond their means on “stuff” that will probably be discarded before next Christmas. Individually we can try to do our bit but it is what we do collectively that will count.
At my time of life, extinction of life on earth can only be of academic interest (as my own personal extinction is getting closer!) but I have five young grandchildren and I do worry for them and their future.
