Thread: Kevin Ratcliffe

    Kevin Ratcliffe

I listened to the game this afternoon on Radio Wales, with Ratcliffe as the summariser. I know it's been said before, but it absolutely pains him to be positive about City. At the final whistle the presenter asked him a loaded question in favour of City, but his reply was only about how Bielsa's substitutions had cost Leeds. Even if there's some truth in that, he's being employed by Radio Wales to predominantly comment on City. No need for blind bias, but the commentary is being provided for City fans, so focus on City.

He just couldn't bring himself to praise the team. Whether they were fortunate or not, to come back from 3-0 down after an hour playing at one of the two high-flying teams in the league takes some doing. I've got no problem with ex-players calling City out if they've been poor however, the likes of Perry and Blake will call it as they see it. Ratcliffe calls it as he wants to see it.

    Re: Kevin Ratcliffe

He worse when you listen to him whilst watching a game live. Frequently gets players names wrong and always too critical. I often wonder what he would say if he was commentating on himself as a player- would probably bring him back down to earth a bit

As an aside, I was listening to 5live this afternoon and the commentator said 'let's go over to the Vetch Field where there's been a goal' 🤔

Wales online described our equaliser as Glatzel latching onto a hopeful long through ball while the first BBC report said Glatzel headed it in from headed pass from Tomlin... I despair!!!!

    Re: Kevin Ratcliffe

Ratcliffe once gave me a severe bollocking away at Fulham. He wasnt happy with me being their end and giving someone a kick in the arse.

In fairness, he was probably right as he called me a disgrace as I was being escorted from the pitch.

Miserable sod. Went to Forest when I was up there and said he’d prefer to play for their reserves than us.

A fellow City fan up there chased him around Tesco’s over it when he saw him 😂

Probably why he doesn’t like us

    Re: Kevin Ratcliffe

I'm obviously in the minority but I think he's the most knowledgeable of BBC Wales' pundits. He's a centre back by trade and his comments slammed Bielsa's changing of central defenders, giving reasons why. He, and other pundits, are not there to praise up our players but to provide a feasible analysis. His experience as a defender is far greater than any of us fans.

He played 25 games for us, and failed to make an appearance for Nottingham Forest when he was on their books.

It is but he’s also proved that he’s a shite manager by being ( I believe) the only one his taken 2 teams out of the football league.

He was as much criticising the withdrawal of Bamford for Nketiah (77mins) as he was the centre back switch (84 mins). However, even if the change at the back was that crucial, we still had to complete the comeback, which was done brilliantly. He only wanted to focus on Leeds' supposed failings, and not the part our players played in the final result, because it grates him to praise our club. Which goes back to my point about why he's working for Radio Wales?

    Re: Kevin Ratcliffe

He is a shocking commentator , makes football sound boring and negative.
Listening to our games on radio is a painful experience I try to avoid .

    Re: Kevin Ratcliffe

Ratcliffe isn't the brightest, he forgets names and gets players mixed up, sometimes he struggles to say certain words. That's about it though. This notion that he dislikes us or more to the point. comes across like he hates is is bollocks. It's usually dreamt up by fans who see something that isn't really there, the type that feel that they need to defend the club like they would a sibling. I like listening to him in the same way that i enjoy watching Mendez Laing, one doesn't know what he's going to say next and the other doesn't know what he's going to do next.

Born in the same village ( Mancot) as the God that was Gary Speed .

That is almost the last place in Wales before you become a scouser .
