Both did. Benches in the Canton years ago I serm to remember. Very sustainable. Everton still have wooden seats. Structurally more sound when stood on unlike those plastic ones which break after a few decades of UV makes them brittle.
Occasionally a wayward shot would get stuck under the benches in the canton stand. Top entertainment.

No roof and numbers painted on the benches in a vague attempt to get people to sit in the correct place as the numbers eventually faded and peeled off. Piles of fun.
