I wonder whether it's a financial decision or that he's just not up to this level anymore. I suppose what must be remembered is that he started playing first team football at 17, so he's been playing top level football for nearly 16 years.

I believe I read Lee Bowyer suggesting he had a club lined up and would be abroad recently. I don't think he's done at all.

Yes as the OP says, he started one game after he signed for them and was subbed at half time. Looks like it's over for him unless he lowers his pay expectations and plays at a lower level, if he's ups to it.
