Where is City's academy?
Birmingham seem to produce loads of decent youth players
I can imagine that there would be a lot of clauses associated with that fee
"The most exciting young talent since Wayne Rooney" apparently.
Really?
I thought the same thing when I saw it though. Where's our exciting 16-19 year-olds in the first team? Never gonna happen.
He's world class on football manager if that makes a difference
Just look at the Wales OnLine column:

Gavin Whyte, at 23 “is still young and will improve. He will also get used to the rough and tumble of the Championship in due course, too. But there is enough to suggest he is a sold acquisition with bags of potential”.
Isn’t this type of language more appropriate for a player around 19 years of age, rather than a 23 year old, who should be coming into the best years of his career?

Hes 16 and Birmingham have the same level academy as us.
Doesn't that mean they can buy him for £500k same as Matondo went for?
If that is the case then I'm baffled by the rules too as it seem obvious that RM was going to be a star before he went.
So Ole is being allowed to splash 30 mil on a "one for the future"?
They must be barking mad those owners.
Bruno Fernandes seems to be their target in the news mind
Presume it's because Birmingham had the balls to give this guy first team football and a first team contact.
You have ‘knocked the club’ three times in this thread alone and probably countless times in others. You are not the only one to do this of course - being constantly negative becomes a habit but eventually you just end up doing it for the sake of it and presumably because you enjoy it.
The rules have changed since all three were sold, and lets be honest the Toshack and Blake transfers were generations ago.
Rabbi Matondo is the most recent case of losing the crown jewels of the academy and once Man City come knocking there was nothing Cardiff City could do. You cant bind a child to an employment contract at 14.
If a Category A academy want to come and poach a player from a Category B academy then, quite simply, they can and a compensation package has to be agreed for the training and development the original club provided.
Here is some kind of explanation to how it works

Unfortunately for the smaller clubs the big boys take advantage of the rules. Ive read that Man City are renowned for picking up kids for peanuts then selling them on for profit and they havent had a sniff of first team football.
Mattondos age group at Cardiff are now first year professionals. Wether he would have appeared in the first team by now is a seperate argument, but I wouldnt have thought so. Not under Warnocks watch.
He had a good first half the other day. But he didn't stand out as being a possible £30M Man Utd player to me. They paid less than half that for Dan James.
