    wow.

We're only 8 goals worse than them , and two places.

Somehow, I don't think we'll match their record over the arse-end of the season.

On a positive note, Leeds had even more points at this stage last season and still bollocksed up promotion.

They got 33 points from those 16 games. What is even more impressive is that matches 31-34 they won 2 point. With 12 games to go, they were 8 points away from the playoffs in 14th. That was before winning 10 on the bounce. They could afford to drop points in their last 2 games and still finished in the playoffs. Prior to that they had won 13 points from a 5 game sequence.

We managed a 3 game winning run just after Harris took over. 2 defeats in 17 in all competitions under Harris is very good. Just need to find ways of getting wins. 10 wins from our last 16? Unlikely? After Wigan in our next home league game we have Forest, Brentford and Leeds. We'll know if we have a chance of a playoff charge after those.

Also Bristol City have a virtually identical record as this time last year ... just 5 goals worse overall

    6th Bristol City 29 13 8 8 (+8) 47 2018/19

    6th Bristol City 29 13 8 8 (+3) 47 2019/20

I tend to agree with you.

However, if Adomah, Sanderson and Smith can freshen the team up then a top 6 finish is doable.

Villa signed Tyrone Mings on deadline day last January, while they already had players like Jack Grealish and Tammy Abraham in their side. They also had Dean Smith as manager.

The stats after 30 games may be comparable but that's about it.

Yes, but we have Tomlin, Patterson and Harris.

I had £60 on villa going up round about the half way point of the season ,the odds were around 8/1 when I bet.
Villa looked quality, but results hadn't been going their way.
I wont be putting 60p on Cardiff to follow that example.

We could all be surprised and Harris gets the football we play a bit more organised , but I doubt it.

It's interesting to see the effect Mings had on Villa. Before he was bought, Villa had the 3rd worst defence in the Championship. They also had the 3rd best scoring record. I agree with JtJ in that Villa did have some quality about them, but defensively they were woeful.

Before Mings: Played 29, conceded 46
With Mings: Played 17, conceded 15.

They cut the number of goals they conceded by almost a third. No doubts there were other things at play as well, but Mings impact was obviously huge. Villa's scoring record remained one of the best in the division, which is why they went up.

Our firepower is nowhere near that of Villa's of last season. Defensively we're not among the Championship's worst this season, but that's because several sides have conceded quite a few more than us. Villa were one trick away from a good run - score lots more or stop the goals going in. We need to do both, as shown by the draws we have.
