SIR Iain Duncan Smith , a legend in his own lunchtime
    Edited for you.
That's what Tories give you for being an utter bastard to people who need welfare...a knighthood.
Let alone the bollocks he made over UC.
Thank goodness I have never needed it.

They'll still be voted back into office at the next election, possibly making more gains in Wales

    I despair

The Universal Credit of today is not the one that was first announced and is not the same one which needed many flaws fixed through court challenges, although flaws within the system still exist. Will be interesting to see result of Scotland aiming to fix benefits system and if that can be taken into Wales/the UK.

Didn't Ian Duncan Smith resign over the budget huge cuts to Universal Credit which caused the problems with roll out? I think George Osborne was the villain and not IDS.

Wasn't this back in 2016 before the Brexit referendum? I think IDS stated that he resigned more over cuts to PIPs, though he was also arguably pushed as he wasn't popular with Cameron and Osborne, and also sat on the opposite side of the EU fence to them. Me thinks politics was most likely in progress here and he used PIPs as a reason for resigning to make him look like the good guy while being able to set his own EU agenda.

Iain Duncan Smith*has resigned as work and pensions secretary over cuts to disability benefits, in the most dramatic cabinet departure of David Cameron’s leadership.

In a sign that divisions over Europe have heightened tensions in the*Conservatives, the former party leader stormed out of his job, saying he thought the cuts to welfare for disabled people known as personal independence payments (PIP) were a “compromise too far”.

The Guardian view on Iain Duncan Smith: a very political resignation

Duncan Smith, who is campaigning to leave the EU in opposition to Downing Street, said he had too often felt under pressure to make huge welfare savings before a budget in a stinging critique of George Osborne’s entire approach to reducing the deficit.

    Read it again... Slowly.

    "cuts to disability benefits"
"cuts to welfare for disabled people known as personal independence payments (PIP)"

Nowhere does it mention UC... which isn't a disability benefit.

Tories have totally effed this up, as they have effed the rules on detaining the terror brigade, they (Labour) better have their act together for the next GE, it should be easy pickings next time.

Duncan smith resigned over personal independence payments

It wasnt for any moral support of the disabled , he wouldnt have ended dla which was replaced by pip if he had morals

He did it because his ego had been bruised

Surprised no-one has made mention of the BBC series UC, Inside the Welfare State.

The first two episodes can be watched on BBC iPlayer, and episode 3 will be available after it's broadcast next week - https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m00...episodes/guide

You need to register an email address first though to view.

Re: Universal Credit , same old tories

Well this welfare reform thing isn't going too well

The problem is , the people it isn't going very well for is the claimants

It was almost laughable watching Theresa Coffey the new dwp secretary dismiss the rise in the use of food banks with problems in the running of universal credit

The way these tories just blatantly tow the party line in the face of such overwhelming evidence is staggering

What do these people know about poverty ?

    Absolutely **** all
