It's about those who have the bottle. Those who choose to do so have got some guts. Regardless of whether a penalty is shit or not, those players have put themselves in the firing line. Maybe we should consider which players didn't fancy it.

He did and I saw all of those goals.
Not one was a penalty or free kick.

I’ve never seen him anywhere near those.
In fact when they used to practice penalties before the game he used to practice headers with Baker and Magnusson...,

We listed our penalty takers here and Flint was obviously nowhere near anyone’s 5.

That on top of throwing away a 2 goal lead.

    Absolutely pathetic.
Nice to see someone ready to put the boot in immediately.

Middlesbrough gave us £7m for him which - as much as I loved the big guy - was absolute daylight robbery by Lansdown and Ashton.

I’d be surprised if an astute guy like Warnock would have spent any more than £3m?

You may well be surprised, then. My question was rhetorical.

BTW, nice to see you contributing well on here. Not sure why you decided to change, but it's been welcome and your input is interesting.

Come on then: defend the decision to let Flint take the FIRST penalty.

I REALLY want to see this. Seriously.

If you have to score to stay in the game, surely you want your best penalty taker taking that one? The first one means your keeper has 4 more chances to get you out of jail.

    NO!!!!!!!

    Are you Neil Harris??!!

By that time you are out! As we are!

    Don’t you see that?

We're out because Jazz Richards can't defend and Harris picked 4 kids on the bench of which he didn't trust them to come on. If I am Neil Harris, I'm doing a good job of disguising it slagging him off in this thread.

I just did. Flint goes to his gaffer "I'll nail the first one for you boss, I'll put my neck on the line. Leave the best penalty takers for the end of the shootout."

Maybe Flint has been banging in penalties for fun in training.

The point is that you don't know why he ended up taking the first one.

I said that without having any idea what Cardiff paid for him.
I’m assuming given Woodgate didn’t have him in his plans and he’d had a shit season that Boro took a loss on him.
    I’d guess at £3m going to £5m at a push? Though I don’t think he’s worth 5.

Aden Flint has never taken a penalty in his career before tonight.

Assumed he would have as he's got the odd hat trick.

    Re: Well done Harris

One of those hat tricks was against Walsall at home.
I don’t want to dismiss it because a hat trick is fantastic and for a defender.

But I can’t even justify to you how utter dog shit Walsall were.
    We won 8-2.

Glatzel picked up a groin strain in the last 5 minutes and Harris didnt notice. He should've been subbed.
Bamba was knackered after an hour and should have come off aswell.

Our outfield subs were Mayembe, Morrison and Bowen.

No doubting he might have said.." I'll take the first one, boss". However, not even Messi would have used words to the effect of "I'll nail it".
As Jursett has said, Flint has never taken a penalty in his professional career!

What a crock of shit. It’s common practice to send your best taker up first.

Or perhaps we could have had subs that he felt comfortable putting on that would have taken a pen, instead of kids that he clearly didn't trust. I'd blame Harris for the stuff leading up the shootout rather than the pens themselves.

I really don’t but all logic says that it was a stupid idea and one that only a fool would risk taking.

What's your 5 then? Of all the things wrong with tonight, who took the flipping pens isn't one I'd focus on.

I’m just saying that if you seriously think that putting your best penalty taker last is a good idea, then I am going to have to disagree with you. Along with most of the posts on here about the subject seemingly.

    It just defies any logic.

So if Flint HAD to take a penalty then he should have been fifth (or ideally 11th).

Embarrassingly inept decision making by Harris.

If we had Lee Peltier at right back, we'd be in the 5th round. That's the embarrassing decision. If Glatzel was injured as some have alluded to, then that leaves Vaulks (who missed), Pack and Murphy (can you imagine the reaction if he missed!). This highlights the incredible lack of technical ability in the squad. As soon as it went to pens, we were stuffed.
