I helped run a Welsh language music show for a bit and the Welsh scene has picked up over the past few years, there's a Welsh music day playlist on Spotify for those who have it.

Here's a selection of some other stuff (I notice SFA only promoted themselves :)

Have you heard Adwaith, winners of the welsh music prize? Recommended.

Slightly off topic but when I first moved to Llantwit our Welsh teacher was a bloke called Heffin Ellis who was a big part of the music scene in the 70’s. His yellow lotus looked out of place amongst the rest of the teachers Hillman Imps. Always wondered if he is still around.

He is. Lives in Caernarfon (has done since at least the 80s).

It is difficult to celebrate music in Wakes when it is set against the background of swingeing cuts in music education. Instrumental tuition has been decimated and what was once free is now subject to charges to parents.

I don’t ever remember doing anything particularly enjoyable in music class in the 90’s. Playing recorder was about the pinnacle of instrument tuition. Music has always been undervalued in the public education system from what I understand.

There is loads of scope for music nowadays with great virtual instruments and fun controller interfaces. A bit more expensive than a recorder but kids would look forward to going to music class and creating trap beats and what not.

Dance as an alternative to sports would also be great for a lot of kids.
