Fortunately, this type of thing has never happened to a member of my family and mugging in general is quite a rare event. I obviously wouldn’t feel the same but I have the benefit of emotional distance and can therefore have a more rational opinion of things. I try not to get drawn into the sensationalism and histrionics.

I DO know a guy called Arwel who got jumped coming to work at bar at 8pm on a Saturday night. He turned up in tears. Didn’t make the news in Australia or anything. He was 28 . He should probably man up or something.

This is one event among countless others.

I only now realise how unreasonable and totally unnecessary this behavior is after having lived in Europe for a decade. I can’t remember ever seeing a scrap.... and it is paradise.

I would far prefer to live with the outside chance of me or a loved one getting mugged than have to put up with the constant looming threat of violence when out socialising.

Defenseless people (or otherwise) getting attacked should make your blood boil (as it does in this instance). The fact it doesn’t just goes to show how normalised it is. Which is a terrible state of affairs if you as me.
