The people are great and amongst the friendliest I've worked with, their attitude about not being loved and overlooked is the same as South Wales and there are many similarities between the history of the pottery & mining industries. I'm going to the game with my ex-Stokie work mates & will be quaffing in Delilah's with them.

Shithole? Probably. But look around you! The people are real & not pretentious like some of the places we go to.
    This.
I went to uni in Stoke from 97 to 2000. I haven't been back since about 2004, so couldn't advise on anywhere to drink obviously, but the people there are very genuine. Old industrial cities like Stoke are usually this way, Sheffield is similar in many respects... It depends what your opinion of beauty is in a city, but old industrial towns have far more charm to them in my opinion.

They arrested loads of cardiff fans after the echo , wrongly in my opinion , collaborated with Staffordshire police and printed wanted photos in the paper

Nobody was charged as basically the police were seen beating a defenceless man on the floor

People lost their jobs over having their faces printed as hooligans
It was bananas that day. The police were up for a scrap and were provoking City fans all day. They held most of the coaches outside Stoke at Stapeley Water Gardens and then bussed them in after the first half. City fans went straight into the stands and ripped up the segregation netting. I witnessed some bizarre things that day. Home fans smashing up their own seats to lob at us, Andy Legg getting a police horse to move so he could take a corner and my Mum throwing an apple at a copper.

I had driven down that day so exited away from the fans who were going to the coaches - I could see it kicking off behind me as Stoke fans tried to get through the fencing and then getting chased back by a bunch of proper fired up knuckleheads. Didn't the police try and claim a Cardiff hooligan had brought a circular saw to the game and a load of knives etc? Turned out it was his work gear.

The city’s/towns are not the problem, it’s the people who don’t like visitors!!!!

I remember going to that one as a teenager. I think I went to the Old Den in the previous round and then we beat Millwall after 2 replays?

What about the game where the coaches had to pull up at a park in Stoke and we had to go through airport type security, over the top? Or what???

Is that what happened? Geez, that's piss-poor policing tactics, one sure way to get fans irate. How frustrating would that be, to be sat on a coach and looking at your watch, knowing the game had started and the police in no hurry to get you there!

It was the train lot that were delayed by the police and arrived at close to half time

We were delayed by south yorkshire police on a road about a mile from bramhall lane on the supporters club coaches in our first season back in the championship

    On copper on a motorcycle

It was quarter to three , we had travelled for four hours so the first coach emptied and we all got off and we started walking to the ground , men , women and children

within five minutes the cavalry arrived plus dogs and coppers with batons and they escorted us to the ground , missing first ten minutes of kick off

After the game the police accused us of being hooligans breaking a police escort , looking for confrontation with home fans

Lol bunch of idiots , we were the pop and crisps family coaches ff sake

    Useless policing

I’m sure you’ll all be thrilled to read what I did with my day.

Went to the bar on the station, as advised. Very nice, bit trendy

Then went to The Terrace, which was perfectly pleasant, if a little over priced. Bt sports was on
