The Brains family are obviously cashing in - they’ve sold the Brewery site on Penarth Road at the side of the station which is currently being demolished to make way for a huge development and the public house sell off confirms the scaling down of their business empire.
I’m not sure
Obviously a brown field site acquired on the cheap with huge incentives from the Welsh Arsembley government.
And to Eric I wouldn’t be surprised if they used water from the Taff as their beer always gives me the trots 😂😂
top house(the station hotel) cogan is one
Dark
SA
Black
Barry Island IPA
They brew some fantastic beers.
Sad to hear that. Probably more chemicals in the recipe now to help the beer keep longer?
I did shifts behind a bar in a Valleys social club as a nipper (16 year old) and my boss was a Cardiff boy. He had Brains Dark and SA on tap. SA was a decent pint although I was strictly lager tops then. Dark was an acquired taste mind.
The new brewery is in Tremorfa. It’s a tin shack that was opened last year by HRH Prince Harry.
Brains have pubs as far afield as West Wales and Bath. In fact, I got married just outside Bristol and the deciding factor was the Brains pub next door so that I could nip there before the wedding with my entourage and have a swift Reverend James!
Might put a cheeky bid in for The Albany. A great little pub.
you lot dont know how good you've had it . try drinking some swedish brewed piss.
plus they are totally fascinated with paying top prices for IPA cats piss at almost 10 quid a bottle 33cl
I live down West. There are 3 Brains nearby. In fact I am in the Grove in St David's as we speak.
Wouldnt be surprised to see this one go as a premier inn will be opening in a matter of months which will take much of the b&b trade.
In Mid Wales I use the Dovey Arms and White Lion, Bala. Both are busy and will stay.
I have commented before that Brains are not investing in their estate. All the pubs I've mentioned could do with upgrading.
Ps they sold the Angel in Narberth a few months ago after telling all and sundry they were going to refurbish it. Seems like big change of strategy, cash flow issues perhaps?
They let The Bowl Inn in Lower Almondsbury, near Bristol, go downhill before selling it on.
I think they tried to be like Fullers, but never achieved the scale.
