Double standards by Phillips or the labour party ?
What is clear is there is a serious problem in some towns and cities with Muslim men abusing vulnerable girls , often those in care , and it appears these young girls are systematically assaulted by groups of Muslim men
It's happened in Newcastle, oxford, rotherham , rochdale , keighley etc
Of course there are groups of men who are not muslim who are part of sexual predator gangs , the body in the carpet murder in cardiff for example
Probably double standards. I don't know everything Trevor Philips has said in the past but he seems to have a very different attitude to claims of Islamophobia to those of Anti-Semitism, and his support for open and 'healthy debate' in the Labour Party seems to apply to one situation but not another (where he has supported closing down discussion on Zionism and Israel).
He has indeed. He has also dismissed the definition of Islamophobia adopted by the Labour Party that was drafted by the All Party Parliamentary Group on British Muslims (with representation from all the major parties). He seems to be in a different place than most of the British Muslim community. However he seems to be fine with the IHRA definition of anti-semitism that makes it racist to oppose Zionsim as a political ideology.
Also, he isn't the first Moslem MP, even if the Birmingham Mail makes that claim. The first Moslem MP in the UK parliament was Mohammed Sarwar (Glasgow Govan 1997).
