Reading that, Wales isn't doing too badly compared to the rest of the Uk - further confirmation of that here;-

we have about 3.5 % of the cases currently, and about 5% of the population, so we're doing a bit better than other parts of the UK, but then the UK as a whole has handled this about as badly as anyone.

What is encouraging is there may be signs the second spike is more under control in wales

Wales has 4.5% of the cases in England as opposed to around 4.5% of the population of England so the difference between England and Wales is marginal to say the least and the earlier claim that Wales is doing so much better than England and the Welsh are far better protected than the English is a bit of a stretch to say the least especially as the south of the UK is not so badly affected and the population of the Northerly part of Wales is far sparser than the areas most affected across the border.

Because I live in the county, I was well aware that RCT had the highest proportion of cases per 100,000 in the U.K. for long stretches of the spring/early summer and, if memory serves me correct, there were times when seven out of the worst ten counties were Welsh. The BBC link posted by delmbox states that the current worst Welsh county, Merthyr, is rated fifty fifth - that to me is a good thing and I don't get why you seem reluctant to acknowledge it.

I have to say I feel a lot safer living in Wales and believe we are being far better protected than those poor people in England. More power to their elbow I say.

Anyone know what happened to this announcement by Health Minister, Vaughan Gething back in July

"""New Ł5m health lab in Newport to process coronavirus tests

Newport is the site of a new 'Lighthouse Lab', a super lab at the frontline of the UK's testing strategy

A new 'Lighthouse Lab' has been announced for Newport as part of a UK-wide expansion in coronavirus testing.

It will be the fifth Lighthouse Lab in the UK - others have been functioning in select sites across the UK since as early as April,*set up*to process the tests people are sent to do in their own home.""

    According to this:-

London has a slightly bigger population than Qingdao - how long would it take for the whole of London to be tested I wonder?

I'm sure there are a lot more than 12 cases in London as well.

as an aside, I fully respect the lengths that guy has gone to to win an argument on Twitter about how big Sheffield is.

The short answer to the question is a very long time. I know a lot of faith is being put into test and trace (t&t) and that the existing arrangements are a shambles. The system requires any person with a positive diagnosis to isolate and it seems only around 18% comply and 82% don't.

    https://www.kcl.ac.uk/news/effective...on-and-support

However, any t&t system requires the population to cooperate and that isn't happening according to the independent statistics. It seems to me that t&t may not be the answer that many people believe although the government could do a lot better to communicate the need to adhere to the requirements.

But some of that, as before is catch-up from lower figures at the weekend.

Sky news coverage pretty grim this evening. Hospitals almost at capacity in some areas of the north west for ventilators, a lot of people now saying a complete circuit breaker is needed for at least 2 weeks. And people are still meeting up in their houses and social clubs.

Starmer is now calling for a complete circuit breaker for 2-3 weeks. It's about time he woke up but I agree with him and so will the public most probably.

    Re: Coronavirus update

Who Britons hold most responsible for the rise in coronavirus cases over the last month:

    The public: 53%
    The government: 28%

    https://twitter.com/YouGov/status/1315682866974650370
The percentage of people who hold neither the government or the public most responsible is pretty steady overall and then still with Conservative/Labour split but it's range is 9-10% whereas holding public more responsible varies from 29% (Labour voters) to 78% (Conservative voters).
