    Furloughed

A friend who i work with and is furloughed phoned last night and told me he has had
a email from headoffice that his wages would be atleast a week late.Is this lawful.
It does not apply to me as i am still in full time work, only me and the branch manager there.

Possibly depends when he was furloughed, if when it started it should be sorted, but if he didn't go to the 3rd week, then the company may to trying to get through the admin.

AS I understand it the arrangements require businesses to pay their workforce the 80% upfront and then recover the money from the government. In this case it is possible the Company doesn't have the cashflow to pay upfront and are therefore waiting for their claim to be settled by the government before paying the workforce.

    Gov guidance: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/check-if...tention-scheme

    ACAS guidance: https://www.acas.org.uk/coronavirus/...-the-workplace

Companies won't be able to access grant yet (gov site expects it to be by end of April) so can see some sense in what Vindec is saying. Even if it is unlawful, what can the employee do about it that will put them in a better position than getting paid agreed amount a week late? My first question would be whether they have worked for company for 2 years or not...

Not much he can do about it .
Friend of mine has laid all his staff off
He couldn't carry the months wages till the furlough payments came through.

I would guess your friends employer is trying to get to the end of April.
