Dealing with lockdown violaters Chechen style

Good quote. Don't think it'd go down well over here.
Chechen leader: 'I’d rather beat one person, than bury a thousand'

Ramzan Kadyrov, the authoritarian leader of Chechnya, has emerged as the most hardline enforcer of social-distancing measures in Russia.

Following an incident in the Chechen town of Argun, where a policeman hit a man violating local quarantine rules, Kadyrov has praised the police officer and promised to reward him. "I’d rather beat one person, than bury a thousand," he said via Instagram.

So far Chechnya is the only region of Russia to introduce a curfew to stop the spread of coronavirus: from 8:00 to 20:00.

What a brilliant quote and I totally agree with him. If you're going to do something, do it properly! The sooner the lockdown is rigidly enforced the sooner we can escape from it.

Beat **** out of the public? Nothing like a pandemic for making moderate people become authoritarian.

Unprecedented times, call for unprecedented measures

Doubt many will be flying in the face of the directive in Chechnya.

He is a vile person with his policies in general. I would be cautious about him as he may use the measures as dog-whistle to disproportionately punish some groups

I don't know anything about the Chechen leader, just staggered at how so many people can't heed simple lockdown advice. If they're too stupid or too selfish to refrain from jeopardising lives, and a possible fine is no detererent, it's difficult to see what else can be done. I certainly am not suggesting they get the **** beaten out of them, maybe heftier fines, a night in the cells.

He looks like he spends sunny days stuck in on the Xbox with the curtains closed, room smelling of farts.
