A trio of firsts. Abide with me for the first time also first time on the radio and famously the first time a Welsh team had won the cup. If I'm not mistaken I think the largest crowd at the new Wembley for the fa Cup final was when we lost to pompy.

further down the page is a portrait of St George - doesn't look much like a dragon slayer to me, and more likely to get his head kicked by the english skinheads than anything else!

Isn't it also the first time "back to square one" was used? It maybe a myth, but apparently the Radio Times published a gridded map of the pitch to accompany the broadcast.

The 1923 Cup final had an official crowd of 126,000 but it was estimated that up to 300,000 squeezed in!!! Imagine saying excuse me I'd like to go to the toilet 😂🤣.

Correct, this isn't a myth either. 8 squares to help the listener understand where the ball was.

Apparently they had 2 commentators. One would say which square the ball was in and the other would describe what was going on.
